In the News: Principal leaving Crater for Ewing Young

After serving as principal at both Antonia Crater and Ewing Young elementary schools for the last 18 months, Kevin Milner will take on a new assignment within the district in the fall: Milner will remain principal at Ewing Young, and implement the districts new K-8 literacy plan.

“Given the new demands on educators as we implement rigorous Common Core Standards, new Smarter Balance testing and teacher evaluation, educators need additional support if we are to increase our graduation rate,” Newberg Public Schools superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza said.

Milner has served as principal at Antonia Crater since 2006, taking on the same position at Ewing Young when the district’s budget was reduced for the 2011-2012 school year.

Previously Milner served as principal at Mabel Rush between 2000 and 2006 and assistant principal/academic intervention teacher at Edwards Elementary in 1998.

In an email to parents, Milner said it will be difficult to leave the 450-student school, but that he has come to recognize Ewing Young as a “very special place” over the course of his tenure.

“I am very much looking forward to getting to know Ewing Young parents and our kids at a much deeper level and playing a much bigger role in everyone’s school experience,” Milner went on to say in the email. “We have a lot of important work ahead of us with some exciting opportunities on the horizon to explore and learn together.”

Crater staff and parents will be involved in the hiring process for a new principal.
