In the News: School Board to meet Tuesday

The focus of the Newberg School District board of directors Tuesday night will again be the search for retiring Superintendent Paula Radich’s replacement.

High on the directors’ agenda will be the selection of members for the screening committee.

The screening committee will review all the résumés submitted in early April and will be composed of all the directors and an equal or greater number of community members. Donna Herren, the Oregon School Boards Association consultant leading the search for a new superintendent, has said that committee members should expect to spend 30 to 40 hours perusing the applications. In April, the board is expected to select a number of finalists, based on the committee’s recommendations. Those will be invited for site visits and in-person interviews.

Tom Lennox, an attorney for the OSBA, will provide the board with an analysis of the district’s contract with the current superintendent.
In other business, the board is expected to:

  • Hear a bond update from Joshua Dodson, the project manager hired to oversee the construction projects financed by the bond, and director of finance and operations Nathan Roedel.
  • Approve the renewal of licensed contracts.
  • Ratify a contract with the Oregon School Employees Association.
  • Approve travel to Wadayama, Japan, by students of Chehalem Valley Middle School.

The board will meet in executive session to discuss ongoing contract negotiations.
