Newberg High School will host viewing of critically-acclaimed 'Most Likely to Succeed' on Monday

As part of its ongoing effort to deliver 21st century teaching and learning in its classrooms, the Newberg School District will host a screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary "Most Likely to Succeed" next week.

The district will host a viewing party at 6 p.m. Monday in Drea Ferguson Auditorium at Newberg High School, then host a discussion about what matters to students most today.

The documentary feature, which was released in 2015 and was screened at Sundance, Tribeca and numerous other film festivals, examines the growing shortcomings of conventional education methods in today's innovative world.

Based on the book by Ted Dintersmith and education expert Tony Wagner, the film explores creative new approaches that aim to revolutionize education and inspire school communities to reimagine what students and teachers are capable of doing.

Dintersmith also served as executive producer of the documentary, which was directed by Greg Wheatley. The trio launched a national campaign to host screenings as part of a call to action to change the education landscape.

The screening in Newberg is part of the school district's ongoing "Portrait of a Graduate" project, which is collecting input from students, teachers, parents and community members so as to identify the essential skills and traits local students should be developing by the time they graduate.

"We are excited to engage the community in this screening and the work that follows," a release from the school stated. "Newberg High School's site council is working on the school improvement plan goal of college, career and life-ready. The group plans to identify what graduates need to succeed and to make recommendations to the board about next steps, including policy revisions that align with the Profile of a Graduate work."?
