In the News: Strangers help Newberg family hit by burglars
A Newberg family was burglarized while at a Portland hospital Tuesday caring for their one-year old with Down Syndrome and a heart defect.
"It's heartbreaking," said Priscilla Bunting. "Heartbreaking and just devastating."
Burglars made off with several thousand dollars in electronic equipment.
The Bunting's story appeared on KGW-TV and kgw.com and then viewers started responding, saying they wanted to help.
Anonymous donors offered to give the Buntings a large flat-screen TV, baby clothes, $3,500 in cash and Christmas presents for their kids, among other things.
"I don't like to cry in public, but it makes me want to cry," said Priscilla. "I can't even think of the words to say, I'm so thankful."
The family had just moved into the house on Princeton Street last week. This was the family's first trip to Oregon Health and Sciences University.
They had just moved to Oregon from New Jersey, where Mark and Priscilla Bunting lost their jobs. Mark Bunting was a second-generation policeman, and Priscilla worked for the county.

As a Trenton police officer, Bunting was unusual in that he lived in the city, and put his kids in public schools, the Trenton Times reported.
He told the Times that "it looks like a postcard" in Oregon, and that "everyone's friendly." His children love going to school in Newberg after disliking the Trenton district.
"We tried and decided this was best to come out here with the kids and try to start new and get new jobs," Priscilla told KGW.
"It was pretty bad back home and we come here and within three or four days we get burglarized," added Mark Bunting. "I've got four kids trying to sleep and it's uncomfortable."
The idea that Christmas is right around the corner is not exactly comforting either.
"I don't know how we'll do the Christmas thing like we planned on doing," said Mark. "We'll get something together."
Anyone with information was urged to call Newberg-Dundee police.
