Parker new Assistant Superintendent

David Parker, Executive Director of Secondary Education at Hillsboro School District, will become Assistant Superintendent of Newberg Public Schools. The position has been vacant since 2009.

Superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza announced Parker’s selection Wednesday morning following a special school board meeting approving his contract.

“Dave will bring a great deal of energy and enthusiasm,” said LeBlanc-Esparza. “He brings outstanding leadership skills and experience that will support our work around innovation. He is simply a great addition to our team.”

Parker has advanced through a 23-year education career as a science teacher, principal and a central office administrator. He served as middle school principal at South Meadows, Thomas and Evergreen Middle Schools, assistant principal at Century High School and Brown Middle School before serving as the current Executive Director of Secondary Education. Parker has worked in the Hillsboro School District since 1990.

The Beaverton resident received his administrative license and master’s in science at Lewis and Clark. Parker earned both his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and teaching degree from Portland State University.

Parker brings experience in specific areas of interest for Newberg schools, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs, technology and redesigning employee evaluation systems. He is an experienced leader known for his work in collaborative teams and standards-based teaching and learning.

As assistant superintendent, Parker will be responsible for human resources, including recruiting, hiring, retaining and evaluating staff, and assisting the superintendent in the development of teaching and learning and staff development.

His first day on the job is September 17th.
