Paton, Johnston to lead Mountain View
Michele Paton will be the next principal of Mountain View Middle School, replacing Wayne Strong who retires at the end of June. Donald Johnston will continue in his roll as assistant principal.
Superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza made the announcement at the Newberg School Board meeting Tuesday evening, June 23, 2015.
Paton was recently selected as the new assistant principal after a lengthy hiring process. Both Paton and Johnston were finalists for the assistant principal position in May.
Paton is an associate principal at Gervais Middle/High School. She also serves as the lead administrator at Samuel Brown Academy, an alternative education program for students in grades 6-12. Paton has 13 years of classroom teaching experience at the middle and high school level. She has worked as a counselor and guidance specialist TOSA (teacher on special assignment.)
Johnston served as assistant principal at Mountain View for the 2014-15 school year. He has taught in the Newberg district since 1995, most recently as a core language arts/social studies teacher at Chehalem Valley Middle School. He has extensive experience in alternative education programs for middle school students.
