School community remembers Floyd Aylor

Newberg Oregon School District

The school community is remembering Floyd Aylor, the caring gentleman from Virginia who served on the Newberg School Board for ten years. Aylor died August 7th from a brief illness. He was a member of the Newberg Board of Directors from March 1997 through April 2007 before resigning for personal and medical reasons. Floyd was an outstanding school board member, leader, and advocate for children said Superintendent Paula Radich.

Aylor contributed business and property knowledge, played a role in the hiring of Superintendent Paula Radich and was said to have a “calming effect” according to Board Chair Melinda Van Bossuyt, who served with Aylor the length of his tenure.
“Floyd (was) a gentleman always and the times when he would serve as chair, he was always fair and balanced and careful and I appreciated his calm demeanor,” said Van Bossuyt. “He was a great person to work with ... He really cared about what he was doing. He cared about the district. And he cared about the kids.”

Floyd is survived by his son, Andrew. Floyd will be buried in Culpepper, Virginia, next to his parents. A memorial open to the public will be held at First Presbyterian Church in McMinnville within the next few weeks.
