Service, excellence, retirees recognized at Crystal Apple Awards
Six Newberg Public School employees were recognized for outstanding teaching and service at the district's 16th annual Crystal Apple Awards recognition program on Friday, June 12th. Each had been nominated by parents, colleagues or students. An independent panel that judged the nominations included Mayor Bob Andrews, Newberg School Board member Ron Mock, Chehalem Valley Chamber president Carr Biggerstaff, PCC Newberg director Lynn Quinn, schoool district budget committee member Jennifer Fisher and NHS student Courtney Croft. Recipients are:
Christy Crisman - Outstanding High School Teacher
Christy serves as the counselor in the Catalyst high school program . She's know for the going the distance on a daily basis to focus on the current and future success of each and every student.
Teresa Conway - Outstanding Middle School Teacher
Teresa leads one of the most innovative and successful Lifeskills classrooms in the state at Chehalem Valley Middle School. Teresa's energy and passion are an inspiration to all who work with her.
Sharon Smith - Outstanding Elementary Teacher
Edwards Elementary School counselor Sharon Smith is a leader who is provides tireless support behind the scenes for students and families to meet whatever issue is a barrier to school.
Jeff Dale - Outstanding Instructional Assistant
This Mountain View Middle School assistant's dedication to working with students challenged by disabilities inspired students and staff alike to share their high opinion of the work he does for kids every day.
Sarah Malone - Outstanding Classified Employee
Sarah works with some of the most challenging students in our district as a Behavior Coach at Joan Austin Elementary. She is a talented, highly motivated individual that works tirelessly to support students lagging in social skills to be successful.
Don Staples - Outstanding Administrator
In his role as Director of Assessment, Don has skillfully lead initiatives that spell changes in the way the organization operates, including state testing, grade level math and literacy assessments -- all with a calm demeanor and a positive attitude.
