Sophomore’s short story selected for literary publication
Insomnia may have its rewards.
Newberg High School sophomore McKenzie Wiard developed an award-winning short story, “Memories,” during a night she couldn’t sleep. Butterflies and forests - some of her favorites things – are incorporated as symbols and scenery in the story.
“Memories” was selected in the youth fiction category for the 2017 Paper Gardens book of poetry and prose. Paper Gardens in a prose and poetry writing contest sponsored by the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County.
McKenzie will be recognized and read her winning piece at the annual awards celebration and book release on May 4th at the Chehalem Cultural Center.
Dr. Anna Keesey, Linfield College professor and author of the award-winning novel “Little Century” judged the prose entries.
