Student posters depict Civil Rights theme
A poster drawing of Martin Luther King Junior and her family earned recognition for Celes Haney as the winner of the 4th annual Martin Luther King Junior Celebration poster contest. Celes is a 6th grade student at Mountain View Middle School.
The contest was held in conjunction with the annual Newberg community event honoring civil rights on Martin Luther King Junior Day. Contest winners were announced during the program.
A poster depicting King and his “I Have a Dream” speech earned Sydney Houck, a 5th grade student at Mabel Rush Elementary, the “People’s Choice Award.”
Lisa Privette, Mountain View Middle School art teacher was also recognized for inspiring and encouraging student participation.
The student posters are on public display at the Chehalem Cultural Center.
