Bond Development Committee

Last Tuesday was our first Bond Development Committee meeting. As the Board considers placing a bond for facility improvement on the May 2020 ballot, they have hired BRIC Architecture to guide us through the planning process. This Bond Development Committee has board members, staff, parents, community partners, and business owners who have been selected to give input. Be watching for ways you can give your input at gatherings later this fall!

Highlights from the week:

Newberg High School's Career and Technical Education (CTE) is one of the ways we are ahead of the game in our state. I had two different opportunities to see and discuss what's happening across the state, and to give input about some ways Newberg might partner. We had some of our district staff attend a Willamette Educational Service District (WESD) seminar on using data for a Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). And, I had the chance to meet with several of our key community partners, and gather our principals for a nuts and bolts meeting.

Community Input

We are inviting staff, parents, and community to give us input on the District's Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). This plan helps us to flesh out the goals needed to meet our overall Strategic Plan. Staff are invited to one of two dates: Wednesday Sept. 25 and Monday Oct. 7, both at 4 pm.

The parent and community dates are either Wednesday Oct. 2 or Thursday Oct. 17, both at 6 pm. Click here for more info on those dates.

Joe's Thoughts:

With our first Bond Development Committee meeting, a workshop in Salem to prepare for the Student Success Act funding, and a tour of the CTECH facility in Salem Keizer Public Schools, I was able to see how Newberg and Dundee students have a very bright future ahead of them. We have some opportunities to talk about the kinds of interesting and exciting educational experiences through our feedback sessions for SSA, as well as ideas on spaces and places to discuss during our BDC meetings. We already have some amazing programs here for students to access, but there are many more for us to explore and implement to give every student the chance to think about their next steps beyond us when they graduate from Newberg High or from Catalyst. I’m excited to work with both our industry partners and our higher education partners to think through what our opportunities can do to serve students across our broad spectrum. I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead when we will continue our conversations about the expanded opportunities we will be able to provide our students and staff.
