Superintendent Search Update / Información Actualizada de la Búsqueda del Superintendente
After several months of a search for a permanent Superintendent, the Newberg School Board of Directors has chosen three finalists. Extensive reference checks and visits to each candidate’s school district will take place this week. Each candidate will be here in the Newberg School District on Monday, March 4, to visit schools and meet staff and community members. The district will host a “meet and greet” for all three candidates Monday, March 4, from 6-7 pm at the High School.
At the meet and greet, all parents, staff, and community members are welcome, and will have the chance to leave written feedback for the Board. Those connected most closely with Elementary schools will gather in the West Commons, those connected with Middle School in room A105, and High School upstairs in the library. Attenders can choose the room they are most interested in; each candidate will rotate through to each room.
The finalists, in alphabetical order, are:
Oscar Gilson, Assistant Superintendent, Portland Public Schools
Joe Morelock, Interim Superintendent, Newberg Public Schools
Randy Trani, Superintendent, Corbett Public Schools.
Oscar Gilson:
Oscar Gilson is an Assistant Superintendent with Portland Public Schools, which has a student population of approximately 46,000, in Portland Oregon overseeing the Franklin and Grant Cohorts which covers 21 schools. His other administrative experience, also at Portland Public Schools, includes Senior Director of Roosevelt, Senior Director of the Office of College and Career Readiness, Senior Director of the Franklin Cluster. Gilson has also been an elementary Principal, Middle College Program Director, Dual Language Teacher and ELD Facilitator. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and has a Master’s in Education from Portland State University.
Joe Morelock:
Joe Morelock is the Interim Superintendent with Newberg Public Schools, which has a student population of approximately 5,000, located in Newberg Oregon. Before coming to Newberg in 2018, Morelock was the Assistant Superintendent of Lake Oswego School District, which has a student population of approximately 7,000, a position he began in 2015. His other administrative experience includes the Executive Director, Curriculum and Educational Programs for Lake Oswego School District, Director of Technology and Innovation and Director of Secondary Programs for Canby School District. Prior to that Morelock was a teacher, librarian, teacher on special assignment and a coach. He is trilingual in English, Spanish and Portuguese and has a Doctor of Education, Educational Leadership from Portland State University.
Randy Trani:
Randy Trani has been the Superintendent of Corbett School District, which has a student population of approximately 1,200 students in Corbett, Oregon since 2009. Prior to that he was a principal there for five years. He taught Biology, Chemistry and Earth Science at Newberg High School between 1999 and 2004. He has a Doctor of Educational Leadership from George Fox University.

Después de varios meses de búsqueda de un Superintendente permanente, la Junta Directiva de las Escuelas de Newberg ha elegido a tres finalistas. Esta semana se llevarán a cabo una extensa verificación de referencias, así como visitas a los distritos escolares de cada candidato. Cada uno de los candidatos se encontrará en el Distrito Escolar de Newberg el lunes 4 de marzo para visitar las escuelas y conocer al personal y miembros de la comunidad. El distrito organizará un evento para conocer personalmente a los tres candidatos el lunes 4 de marzo, de 6 a 7 pm, en la escuela preparatoria de Newberg – (Newberg High School).
En dicho evento, todos los padres, el personal y los miembros de la comunidad son bienvenidos. Ustedes tendrán la oportunidad de dejar sus comentarios por escrito para la Junta Directiva de las Escuelas de Newberg. Las personas más conectadas con las escuelas primarias se reunirán en el área del comedor de la preparatoria, las personas conectadas con la escuela secundaria en el salón A105 de la preparatoria, y las familias de la escuela preparatoria se reunirán en la biblioteca que se encuentra en el segundo piso. Los asistentes pueden elegir el área que más les interese; Cada candidato se irá rotando en cada una de estas áreas.
