Teachers collaborate to create quality assessments
It may have been a day off for students, but not for classroom teachers. Elementary, middle and high school teachers filled the high school auditorium October 6th to hear nationally-known assessment guru Rick Stiggins tell them how to create quality classroom assessments that inform instruction drecisions and encourage students to try to learn. Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, teachers broke into grade level or content groups to put their new learning to use. Teachers worked with their peers across the district to discuss and create assessments that accurately reflect student achievement and effectively support student learning. The two-day professional development workshop built on work teachers began in August before school started. The next professional development day for teachers is January2, 2012.
