Newberg School District voters passed at $27.1 million bond to protect their investment in schools and support classrooms through the purchase of textbooks and technology. Unofficial election results for Yamhill County show the measure passing with 4,063 yes votes (60.39%) and 2,665 no votes (39.61%.)
Five school board positions were also on the May 17th ballot. Melinda Van Bossuyt, Debbie Hawblitzel and Deona Twenge ran unopposed. Newcomer Polly Peterson will replace out-going board member Mark Ankeny. Incumbent board member Mitsi Vondrachek was re-elected over challenger Jennifer Powell.
“In addition to the scheduled maintenance and repair of buildings, construction projects, textbooks, technology and musical instrument purchases, the passage of this measure has saved jobs,” said Superintendent Paula Radich. “The passage of this measure allows us to move forward next year with a bridge to better economic times.”
