Time to Speak up for Schools
Once again funding for Oregon schools appears to be in jeopardy. Legislative leaders are moving quickly to set the two-year state school fund for K-12 at $7.2 billion. While this sounds like good news, it’s an amount that would result in reductions in Newberg and across the state.
This action would mean a $78 reduction for each student in Newberg schools. It is nearly $2.84 million short of what Newberg needs to maintain current programs, add full-day Kindergarten, operate a full school-year and replace outdated technology and curriculum materials.
Our legislators need to hear that what they are doing for children today is going to impact Oregon and our economy over the next three decades.
Please help us tell how our students deserve an education that prepares them for a global economy and a quality of life that makes our communities strong.
A fact sheet including a list of Legislators serving the Newberg School District and a sample letter is linked below.
