Initiatives

Newberg schools are engaged in a number of initiatives to improve graduation rates for all student populations, reduce achievement and opportunity gaps, and provide 21st Century learning opportunities. These strategies are centered around the organization's core beliefs of "All Means All," 21st Century teaching and learning, and collective responsibility.

 

Initiatives

All Means All initiative focuses attention on barriers to learning by students in poverty, of color and with disabilities.

21st Century teaching and learning emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, citizenship, STEM and post-secondary focus.

Kindergarten Readiness includes classes for preschool parents, migrant preschool, Jump Start transition camp.

Digital conversion expands access to resources by providing digital tools for every student by 2018.

Safe schools practices include drills, emergency plans, visitor screening, locked doors, facility audits, emergency communication systems and prevention.

Equity ensures opportunities for students of all abilities to achieve – migrant preschool, AVID, Lead Higher, Equal Opportunity Schools partnership, Dual Language program and Freshman Academy.

Professional learning improves teacher’s skill set to teach a more diverse student population and the new language arts curriculum.

Every Day Counts attendance initiative targets improving attendance and reducing chronic absence through awareness of the negative impact on student achievement.

Family & community engagement broadens and aligns support for increasing graduation success.

Dropout recovery & retention ensures early interventions for at-risk students.
