Seasonal Flu
Flu Hotline 1-800-978-3040
Symptoms
Fever, cough, runny nose and muscle pain
Prevention
Children are particularly vulnerable to the flu (both seasonal and H1N1). The best way to reduce the spread of these viruses in schools and childcare settings is to follow these simple but important guidelines:
- Get vaccinated. Medical officials recommend vaccination as the most important step toward preventing the spread of flu.
- Wash your hands. Alcohol-based hand cleaners may be used when soap and water aren’t available.
- Cough and sneeze into a tissue and throw the tissue into the trash.
- Stay home when you're sick. Both students and staff who become ill at school will be sent home. Students should not return to school until they have been free of fever (100 degrees F or higher) for 24 hours.
Custodial crews regularly clean surfaces in the building that children and staff touch frequently.
