Achieving high standards and academic success happens through the partnership between regular classroom education and special programs designed to meet individual student needs.

Special Education Services
Newberg School District offers a wide range of special education services designed to meet individual student needs. Services are provided by teachers qualified to teach in the area of disability or by regular education teachers in consultation with the specialist.

Each school in the district offers a variety of programs to support students who are on Individual Education Plans (IEP.) Some programs and services are provided in partnership with Willamette Education Service District (WESD) Regional Programs and Services.

Special education services may include a combination of the following:

  • evaluation
  • consultation
  • specially designed instruction
  • accommodations and/or modifications to the curriculum
  • speech and language therapy
  • physical and occupational therapy
  • augmentative communication
  • autism services
  • vision services
  • hearing services

These services may be provided in any of the following settings or combinations of settings:

  • regular classroom
  • learning resource center
  • elementary behavior intervention classroom
  • life skills classroom
  • elementary structured learning classes

The Newberg School District complies with all federal and state regulations regarding the process and procedures for special education compliance.

Eligibility
Newberg School District offers a continuum of services to students, preschool through age 21. These services are provided in the least restrictive environment as required in Federal and State law.

The District supports students who are eligible for specially designed instruction in these areas:

  • autism spectrum disorder
  • communication disorders
  • deaf and hard of hearing
  • seriously emotionally disturbed
  • mental retardation
  • blind and vision impaired
  • orthopedic impaired
  • specific learning disability
  • traumatic brain injury
