Native Plants

Natives

Through the Horticulture Program's ties with Bureau of Land Management, the City of Newberg, the Chehalem Park and Rec District and the Oregon Ecology class at NHS we invested in Native species for Stream Restoration work, Public education and sales, Land Restoration work, and Landscaping with Native species (Xeriscaping - planting drought tolerant species that do not require irrigation).

In 2010 we became part of the NW Oregon Restoration Partnership (NORP) consortium with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) native species nursery in the Willamette valley and Tillamook Bay area that will supply the Horticulture Program with all the plant material, pots, soil, matting and other materials necessary to grow natives for Riparian restoration projects in our area. Kurt and Roy of the BLM are also offering their expertise to advise and direct our activities growing and propagating native species. This is a great opportunity and partnership for our program.
