Notification of Student Rights

Federal Notifications: FERPA, PPRA

School districts are required to annually notify parents and students 18 years of age, of their rights according to the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) are incorporated into the Newberg School Board policies.

FERPA is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student’s education records. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their child’s educational records. FERPA also requires school districts to disclose directory information contained in student records, which is not generally considered harmful if released to outside organizations.  If parents deny the school permission to disclose any or all items of directory information, they must contact the school in writing by September 30th.
